If an author's story leaves you enjoying a historical fiction, by all means his research better be precise. He didn't stay in that unhealthy situation too long or he probably would have succumbed to it. A nice book but not one I wish to read at this time.

Long stories are not my genre but the suspense nature of this review has glued me to my seat and have read in its entirety. I will soon start this journey and complete reading this book of war. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for your review! When I first started reading it I thought 'oh no this book isn't for me', but now I'm conflicted. I tend to really enjoy historical fiction but not ones that focus on war, however after reading your review I get the impression that the author worked hard to bring this story to life with as much truth as possible. Definitely worth considering when I'm in the mood for this genre.

I’m not sure how I feel about the civil war theme, but this book definitely sounds quite intriguing. I’m looking forward to sampling it. Emile sounds like a wonderful character.

I enjoy reading historical fiction novels, so I may give this book a try and read the sample. Also, I liked how the reviewer mentioned the accuracy of the historical events despite the fiction aspects. Thank you for the review.

From the sample I read, I have a feeling the storyline is not so gripping as the descriptive scenes of war and battles. I was rather surprised to read that you appreciated the complexity and variety of the characters. This was not my initial assumption about the novel. It proves we may be wrong in a quick judgement of a book.

In addition to being historical and fictional, there is a little bit of adventure in this book. Quite intriguing although, but very complex and complicated story lines.

Something about reading historical fictions bothers me - they turn out to be history textbooks. But the way the review ended, with its touch of romance, fight for love and survival makes sense. Yet to read it.

Thanks for the review. Though the history of anything is very interesting, I do not enjoy too much of that in a work of fiction. Good thorough review though.
