I really liked this book - like Batspice, I didnt realise it was fiction until the end - I actually thought it was a real memoir too.

Such a wonderful book...reading these thoughts makes me want to read it again. It had such beautiful descriptions too.

I thought memoirs of a geisha was an amazing book. I'm happy she ended up with the chairman, because she had loved him for so long and he really was all she wanted. To be honest though, I did feel bad for nobu.

I re read the end couple of times, to figure out if it was, in fact a work of fiction! But what a story..I believe the book gave us a candid glimpse of the geisha world. the beauty and the darkness behind the beautiful fair masks...but underneath all of it, a beautiful love story..

It seemed to me that she sort of felt an obligation towards Nobu because of his kindness, which is why I didn't want her to end up with him. She didn't appear to love him and felt as if she owed him a tad which comes off a tad creepy to me. I'm glad she ended up with the chairman as well.

It's an absolutely fascinating book, isn't it? I wasn't bothered about who she ended up with, but I was glad that she survived long enough to live in a less stifling culture.

I absolutely loved this book. It let me aching for the old charm of Imperial Japan although it had its pitfalls.

I talked to someone who read the whole book and was convinced it had been written by the Geisha herself, and was an autobiography. I suppose this shows how convincing Arthur Golden when he writes in a woman's voice. Most readers to whom I've talked about this book think Golden did a very good job in presenting a woman's point of view. The only one who disagreed happened to be a man.
