I enjoy reading short stories since they're perfect when commuting, so this book is right up my alley. I'm attracted to the "With One Exception" story that teaches how people from different races can still be friends. Thanks for your insights on this book.

Do you think that the novella needed the short stories, or would it have worked as a stand alone? I often wonder if it's not distracting from the main theme. Anyway I'm glad it restored your faith in reading! ;)

On the contrary, the short stories supported the main theme perfectly. Each one had a shimmer of the subject matter and some highlighted parts of the novella nicely. Of course the novella could comfortably have stood alone, but then, the conclusion of the book would have come too soon, and trust me, you wouldn't have wanted that. Thanks a lot for your thoughtful comment. :)

Yes! I am glad you liked this book. The cover looks very appealing. The stories sound really cool. I just love stories that are character driven and have lessons to teach. I actually keep a quote book so the quotes in this book seem really interesting to me.
Thank you for such a detailed review! I want to read this.

Thanks Jaime! I share your sentiments as well. Super smart of you to keep a "quote book!" That way, when you reread them, you remember their direct source. I should do that. Great tip!

The book, like the cover, looked like a very mysterious novel; a suspenseful piece of art I am looking forward to read. Congrats!

A collection of stories revolving around a group of African-American soldiers affected with PTSD sounds intriguing. It is great that it embodies perfect suspense with events, and that the characters are well drawn. Too bad about the errors. Sounds too intense for me, but I am glad you enjoyed the book despite its flaws. Thank you for the review!

I love this quote: "Obscurity is your security". I agree the story is character driven based on the preview I read. Excellent review.

It's unfortunate such an amazing story of love and brotherhood will contain such errors. I believe these are minor ones that can be fixed without difficulty. Thanks for the review.
