I finished reading 12 Years a Slave a while back and that was difficult to get through. It was so tragic and frightening. Your review, however, has me tempted to return to that shameful part of American history, even if it is a fictional account.

What an admiring character we have here, Ruby! Even though she's a slave in life, she isn't in her heart. I wouldn't have liked living in those times. Being a slave was a torture for thousands, but what power did they have to make things right? One of the most mammoth injustices of the world, slavery!

Thanks for such an insightful review.
I know itÂŽs hard to give oneÂŽs opinion in such sensitive matters as the one you present in the beginning, but it was all these questions you make that totally grabbed my attention.
Both mean and woman went through horrible, unjustifiable suffering during slavery, but I do admit IÂŽll enjoy reading the female perspective.
Great review, great rating. This book will go straight to my shelves.
