Thanks for the review. I don't normally read historical novels, but I may change my mind on this one. Does this book work well as a stand-alone or do you need to read book 1 first?

Maybe it's because I have yet to read the first book in the Finding Billy Battles trilogy that I don't understand why Billy Battles takes off from Kansas for the Orient in 1894. Also, had I been given more of a summary of the book, I might possibly be able to relate to the reasons that prompted Billy Battles' improbably journey...and in turn, prompt me to read about his adventures.

Very good review. I thought the plot and characters were excellent too. After reading your review, it sounds like the wonderful beginning travels through the entire book. Mr. Yates is a very eloquent writer. Thanks for the review!

I really wonder what's so mysterious about the Orient. Reading that makes me think of Atlantis, but I'm not so sure. I wish I had more background information to help me make up my mind, but since the book is free on BOTD today, I'll rely on its first ten pages for the details. Thanks for the review though.

The Orient is definitely quite the journey from Kansas. Eloquently written with good characterization, this book sounds like it could be great. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

You are correct. This reader has found herself drawn into the book and I won't be able to put it down until I finish, or I fall asleep. I am curious to find out what happens when Billy and Katharina get to the Orient. Has she been telling him the truth? Or, is she just trying to get him to help her get away from something? Maybe she isn't really who she says she is. Hmm...
I also agree with you on the character development. The personality of each character really shines through.

I really enjoyed your review. You said what was needed to be said and kept it moving. Detailed-filled analysis of the characters, plot, and imagery, without a lot of useless words, was the first thing that I took notice of in this review. You have made it a lot easier for me to read this book. This is something that I normally would not read but, if it's good, that 's all that matters. Thanks

The review makes me so curious about the trilogy and might jump right on to buy the first book. I love a well created character book, especially a historical one.

Excellent review! I have read the sample story of "The Improbable Journeys of Billy Battles," written by Ronald & Nicole Yates; both of them has done a tremendous job putting together this story. Journey on the SS China a steamship which set sail in 1894 heading for the Phillipines, Hawaii and Japan. The short episode that I have read is very thrilling. It is suspenseful, a bit humorous and I have enjoyed a gradual romance of Katharina once baroness of Germany and William (Billy) Battles, once a Deputy US Marshall living in Kansas. The short story is so inviting, that I can't wait to read the full story.

I think you did a great job on this review. You pointed out a lot of different areas the author could and/or did have issues with and how it played it the book. Overall it sounds like a good story and after the review, I will definitely check it out. Thanks.
