Ever since Derrick Staunton woke up on the pirate ship Shark Tooth, he vowed revenge against his twin brother, Delbert, and Lady Eudora for the murder of his father and the attempted murder of him. However, to get his revenge and claim the title of Duke of Grenfell, he has to survive the brutal crew under Captain Zuber’s leadership. Meanwhile, Delbert marries Lady Eudora, promising her that she will be the Duchess of Grenfell and wear the coveted Grenfell jewels. After two years, he is unable to keep this promise because he cannot find the jewels, and he is not named the Duke of Grenfell because of a secret requirement that is required. How will Derrick survive and escape the pirate ship? What is the secret to becoming the Duke of Grenfell? Read The Missing Duke by Joan Livieri to find out.

This novel is full of adventure and action that kept me turning the pages. Each character is fully developed and has a unique purpose in the plot, regardless of whether they are a pirate, robber, murderer, or member of England’s elite. Derrick’s compassion and integrity greatly contrast the traits of Delbert and other characters. I enjoyed the way Joan Livieri mixed the romance and thriller genres. It was nice to see love amidst the brutality. Although slavery was common during the era in this book, the author did an excellent job of demonstrating the evils of this practice without condoning it.

I would have given this enjoyable book a perfect score if it had been professionally edited, as I disliked nothing about it. Some readers may find the gory content offensive, but it made the brutal pirates and other characters more realistic. Unfortunately, due to the number of errors, I have no choice but to give this fascinating book 4 out of 5 stars. There was no reason to remove any more stars.

Anyone who enjoys reading romance or thriller books will enjoy reading this book. There is a minimal amount of praying to God in this book. If you have no tolerance for religion or borderline profanity, you may want to skip over this book.
