I finished Nevada by Dana Fuller Ross a couple of days ago and it is just as good as the first book in the Wagon West series, which is called Independence. Looking forward to reading the third book soon.

Sure, if I think of any other Westerns that are good, I'll let you know. : )csimmons032 wrote:I had never heard of Riders of the Purple Sage before, but I looked it up and it sounds pretty good. I will definitely add it to my Want to Read list. Thanks for the recommendation and for joining the conversation ReadtoLive.

I read all of Zane Grey's work (don't judge, I grew up in a very rural area) and still enjoy them. They are dated and biased; not surprising when you consider when they were written. The bad guys were good, the woman were brave, and the good guys quietly heroic.ReadtoLive wrote: ↑21 Apr 2017, 16:13 I saw the movie "Riders of the Purple Sage" on TV a while back and really liked it. Has anyone out there read the book by Zane Grey, and what did you think?
You may want to check out Larry McMurty's work. His descriptions of Western life are well-written prose and he did his historic research.
