I am a fan of historical fiction and strong women characters. This is a great review of the genre, pointing out how women were viewed in that time and how someone like Claire would react in that time period. It has perked my interests and I have downloaded it to read.

I've never believed that marriage was the 'be all and end all' for women and I'm sure glad Claire was able to break that stereotype by retaining her confidence in her independence. Although I do not typically read historical fiction, the plot is intriguing and reminds me of similar books that I have on occasion read, and have enjoyed. After reading the review, I may just decide to see how Claire deals with the time she was brought up in and how she deals with being "just a young woman."

I do not usually enjoy historical fiction, but the 1950's are not too long ago for me to be able to relate to. It sounds like it has interesting themes and I enjoy stories about people who do not conform to society's expectations.
