I loved Shakespeare in school, but reading and understanding it is rather harder than my poor brain wants when I want a reading escape these days. Congratulations to the author, though, for a skilled effort!

I love historical fiction and the setting being 18th century makes it crazy good. Everything about the culture and social norms are different making it a great read.

I am not a fan of blank verse, so this play isn't really for me. Thank you for the review, though! It does sound interesting.

You made this book sound so amazing that is difficult for me not to feel tempted to read it. I find it appealing that the play was written in blank verse and it's full of rich words. Thank you for this thorough review!

The review is very nice but, politics is not my cup of tea. So, I won't read the book.

The author has managed a seemingly impossible feat in today's impoverished culture. A work of blank verse exhibiting of total mastery.

It'd be a ton of fun to read a contemporary book written in Shakespeare-esque style. I wasn't aware that that was a technique currently employed in today's literature...perhaps infrequently so. Sure brings back pleasant school day memories! Will have to take a look...thanks for such a comprehensive review...you explained it well!!

(Still prefer to watch a play being performed rather than reading it though...adds so much to the enjoyment for me! :) )

I love reading Shakespeare so I know I will love this. I can't wait to read it. It sounds exactly like something I will love. Thanks for the great review!

David Lane's The Tragedy of King Lewis the Sixteenth is as good as they come when it comes to historical fiction. The language employed and the style favored by the writer attest to that. Both the play and the poem were said to be written in the traditional blank verse which is unrhymed iambic pentameter. Beautiful! I am surprised though. The reason being that this form of writing "one that was quite famous among writers of those days" is somewhat rare nowadays. The author's adoption of this stylized narrative and poetic art form
reminiscent of the Shakespearean era and his dexterity in combining it with historical events is commendable.

The poem: A Young Poet's Elegy to the Courts of God is somehow philosophical and introspective. Theological as well. Some biblical lessons could be learned. It was even said part of the poem would remind readers of Milton's Paradise Lost, another great writer of those era.

I daresay that this book is great for it has great scholastics potential. Thanks for this great review . ? :tiphat:
