During the war against the Japanese in 1944, some nurses, after being wrongly posted, prepare to be reposted. The nurses, along with the military crew escorting them, have to travel by air. Unfortunately, because of some complications, the plane had to be crash-landed in the middle of the jungle behind the enemy line. The six military men and eight nurses (who are all women from very different backgrounds) are stuck together in the unfriendly jaws of the jungle with little supplies and no way to communicate with their allies to send help. They must survive, but to do this, they must overcome their differences and the distracting lust for the opposite sex. Will they succeed? Or will the enemy find them first?

Warfare Makes Strange Bedfellows is a book I enjoyed more than I thought I would. The book is fictional and has elements of history and romance and some decent action scenes that I think are well done. All these elements flow so well and don’t obstruct one another. I struggled to put this book down whenever I picked it up because I was eager to know how things panned out for the crew, as I could relate to some things they were going through. The fast pace of the book and the way the author, Anthony A Roberts, reveals the background and history of each character also contributed to making the reading experience of this book more enjoyable.

While I enjoyed this book, I noticed a few things I didn’t like about it. The author didn’t describe the scenes as well as I would have liked. He barely gave proper descriptions of the characters, so I could hardly imagine each character with the little information given. The author also kept switching between first names, last names, and sometimes nicknames, which made it difficult for me to keep track of who was speaking and who was being spoken to; it made it difficult to know who was who. I eventually became familiar with the characters' names, but the confusion affected my reading experience.

This book has 45 chapters, but the pages of the book were not numbered, so I could never tell which page I was reading. The book only has a couple of errors, but it seemed like it still needs another round of professional editing. Aside from the pages not being numbered, the excessive dialogue was distracting. Also, I found many awkward sentences, but I wasn’t sure if I could count them as errors or not because they were reported speech.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The errors, lack of proper editing, and the things I disliked about it made it difficult for me to rate it higher. I didn’t rate it lower because I enjoyed every other aspect of this book. I recommend this book for adults over the age of 18 who are interested in history and warfare, but fans of romance will also enjoy this book.

The title itself is interesting and drew me in. Maybe another round of edits from the author is due to work on the problems you mentioned, but overall you make it sound like a really interesting story. Thanks for the great review

Thanks for your interesting review. The combination between military men and nurses in the middle of an unfamiliar jungle is quite appealing. With six men and eight women from different backgrounds, it would be hard for them to survive in peace.

The issues you found on this book would prevent me from picking it up so thanks for the warning! And for the insightful review too.

It would be quite a challenge to keep track of your reading progress without the page numbers. I hope it gets fixed, along with the other concerns you raised. Thanks for the insights.
