A Desperate Turn of Events: A Revolutionary Rewrite by M.J. Clark is a historical novel that tells a part of the American Revolution. The book is a tale of persistence and resilience in the face of challenges and overwhelming odds.

The novel began in 1777 when a group of people led by General George Washington chose to fight for liberty and freedom from the British Crown. These "American Rebels," as they were often referred to, were made up of few trained men and lots of untrained volunteers. The British Army, an organized force, faces a two-year-long endless battle with the supposedly weak Americans. More troops were deployed to counter, suffocate, quell, and make an example of these rebels. A ruthless general, Tarleton, was appointed to lead the march and surprise an attack against the rebels at their camp in winter. With only ammunition, beddings, and shelters, find out how this army of rebels defeated the world's most organized military power.

The story was told from the perspective of both the Americans and the British. The language structure was not complex, which made the book easy to read. The minor and major characters were well developed. My favorite character was Captain Seamus Coyle, who took on the dangerous task of being the American spy in the British army's camp. Even when he had to leave his daughter behind, his resilience and dedication to his belief were inspiring. Washington's faith in God's help even in hopeless situations also served as an encouragement and challenge to humankind in general.

I particularly enjoyed the description of Buckingham's Palace. It piqued my interest, and I hope to get a tour there someday. There is nothing I dislike about the book, as it was enlightening and refreshing. I laughed a few times, and in the end, I was left wanting more. I must commend the author for writing such a beautiful piece from a historical event.

The book had some grammatical and punctuation errors, but that did not affect my reading comprehension. The book would become perfect after another round of editing. Therefore, I rate A Desperate Turn of Events: A Revolutionary Rewrite 4 out of 4 stars. In conclusion, I recommend the book to avid history lovers and to anyone who is just looking for an excellent book to read. There are several morals and life lessons to be picked from both sides of the book.
