Mother of Peace by Carol Klavon invites us to look upon the well-known events through the absolutely unexpected eyes. Princess Salome performs a sacred dance of Seven Veils in front of King Herod. Seduced, he promises her everything she would desire in reward. She asks for the head of Rav Yochanan, whom we know under the name of John the Baptist. Then she looks into the eyes of the severed head, and something happens. Princess Salome dies, and a thirteen years old girl leaves the palace to find her true self and to defeat her inner demons. She meets a teacher named Yeshua (Jesus) and becomes his disciple.

This book is a story about rebirth, spiritual search, and transformation. We follow the growth of a young woman, who makes the biggest mistake in her life, is ashamed of herself, but still tries to recover. Her story inspires and motivates us to be better and to find light in the darkest of times.

The novella has 17 pages, and it consists of five chapters. The author uses a simple yet beautiful language. The narrative unfolds very quickly. The plot line is strong and clear. The author manages to hold our attention from the beginning to the end of the story.

My favorite part of this book is an outstanding love line it depicts. Salome finds not only a loved one but a spiritual brother in Yehuda, another one disciple of Yeshua. She knows their love is doomed, but she accepts her fate with grace and dignity. The most touching moment in their love story was that Yehuda had never really seen Salome's face, covered with the veil, before their wedding night.

The romance between Salome and Judas Iscariot (Yehuda), the most controversial biblical figures, is shocking and very provocative. At the same time, the idea of such a love alliance gives us a perfect metaphor of unveiling a possible good under the covers of the universally known evil.

It is worth mentioning a very decent editorial work. I found only one insignificant typo. There was nothing I could possibly dislike about this book, and it was my greatest pleasure to award it with 4 out of 4 stars.

The most disputable part of the novella is that Yeshua (Jesus) and Mariam Magdala (Mary Magdalene), another one character in the book, are married. But this story is just a fiction. So, I firmly believe that it cannot offend any religious views of a reader.

The book has a light sexual content, thus, young children should avoid reading it. The book doesn't have any profanity at all. At the end of the book, the author mentions the list of sources the novella is based on.

In my opinion, this book appeals to all who love reading historical fiction, books with strong female characters, romance novels, books about spiritual growth, and stories based on the Bible.

It's typically the kind of book I cannot decide on. I am not too big a fan of biblical stories (especially not after a recent disappointing experience), but your review makes it very appealing. Very well written!

I love historical fiction books. This one is a short one, but it seems the author did a great job developing it. It sounds interesting. Thanks for the informative review! Great job.

The love between the biblical figures can be very controversial as you stated in the review. The fiction seems like a great read nonetheless. Thanks for a informative review!

It sounds like there was a lot covered in just 17 pages, and I think it would be fascinating. Thanks for your interesting and informative review!
