War and history fans, if you must read a book today, it should be Sandra Eden’s War by Mike Low. Going down memory lane has never felt so good with tales of Nazi invasions, allied forces, unsung heroes and wartime rations.

The story literally starts off with a jump when Sandra, a British Special Operations Executive (SOE), parachutes into enemy territory but appears to plummet to her death when her device doesn’t open. She survives however and goes on to destroy Nazi communication links in Normandy with the help of her French allies. As the war rages on and Sandra and her friends destroy more enemy links, they discover a spy within their camp. Will this blow Sandra’s cover?

Sandra Eden’s War is a fast-paced historical fiction book that pulls you into the story right from the start and keeps you intrigued, chapter after chapter. I am not really into historical fiction but I decided to give this book a go, and I am pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it is. The characters are well-developed and easy to identify with. I especially love how the main character, Sandra, is portrayed as a fearless war heroine who takes the lead in fighting the enemy and is ready to lay her life for her cause and country. The lack of erotic scenes and little or no profanity helps to convey the precariousness of the war atmosphere in the book. The description writing style is quite straightforward and the energy of the plot did not let up till the very end. The book is extremely well-edited with no grammatical errors and the language is easy to understand.

The only problem I have with the book is with the layout. There is no table of contents with links that would have made it easy to pick up from where I stopped. There are also two blank pages before the first chapter of the book that obviously serves no purpose whatsoever to the plot.

Regardless, I would give this book a star rating of 4 out of 4 for being such an enjoyable and fascinating read. I would recommend this book to readers of all ages because it would help them develop a better understanding of the sacrifices made by countless heroes to save the world from a tyrannical dictator. However, very young readers should be aware of a particular torture scene that is rather graphic but thankfully, short. Lovers of historical fiction should definitely add this book to their reading list.
