Sandra Eden’s War, by Mike Low, is the story of one of Britain’s finest, woman’s contributions in the fight to help free Europe from the repression of Nazism. Set during World War II, Sandra Eden, a British Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent, is parachuted into France a few weeks before the D-Day, 6 June 1944. Her task is to help the French Resistance severely disorder several German troop engagements and supply lines in and around the Allied incursion area of Normandy. With the help of the French Resistance, Sandra has got to contrive through the prepared French countryside to complete her operations. These direct assignments to ‘set Europe ablaze’ were assigned to help shorten the bloodiest war in human history. The following story is about one of the bravest, ambitious, and sacrificing woman, set on a journey.

Mike Low has an eloquent writing style that is both appealing and edifying. The character development in this story is limited, but it is suitable to the book’s plot and topic. Too much dialogue or depth into characters would have sidetracked from the point of the story. The story is a work of fiction; nevertheless, most of the content is based on research carried out by the author. There are quite a few characters involved that add to the depth of the story. The dialogues were concise, and a good pace is maintained.

The best parts of the book were the tone and content. Not many people are aware of the intricacies resistance networks provided for the support of soldiers who storm beaches. The themes of courage, patriotism, comradeship, and survival are seen in the description of this book. I was transported back in time while I was reading this book. So many lives gone, so many sacrifices, defeats, and victories made to ensure the survival of the continuing freedom we experience today.

Overall, there is nothing to dislike about Sandra Eden’s War. The book is an easy read, even with the two languages used. Due to the flawless editing and the author’s narration through the book, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book has an engaging storyline, with scenes of action, courage, and unity. This book is an easy way to learn about some part of the past, it gives you a perspective about how operations underwent during World War II. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in historical details about WWII and the knowledge about the operations that underwent during that time.
