Review by Baeicher -- The McCoys Before The Feud
by
Thomas A. McCoy
The South was heavily pillaged and destroyed by the North during the Civil War. Many southern families were left with nothing by the time the South surrendered. The stolen wealth was intended for auction by the North in order to recoup the expenses of war, but some Northern soldiers aspired to personal gain and hid troves of this wealth in secret locations in counties along the Kansas and Missouri border.
Thomas McCoy Jr. receives a letter from his former betrothed, Theresa, alerting him that she has information about these secret caches. Several members of the McCoy family who served in the war hatch a plan to recover the stolen wealth and return it to the destitute families of the South.
Thomas A. McCoy is a descendant of the famous McCoy clan that he writes about in The McCoys: Before The Feud. His story is a fictional exploration of real people and real events and how those events may have taken place. Will the McCoys successfully execute their plan and return the stolen wealth to it's rightful owners?
I love that this story is based on real people enlisted in the Southern Army during the Civil War. It is perfect for any Civil War history buff and any fan of the McCoys. Mr. McCoy's straightforward writing style is a pleasure to read and he does a wonderful job transporting the reader into an old-fashioned adventure. The Author's Note at the end of the book gives great insight into the story and he also lists the McCoy soldiers from the Civil War Soldiers Registry which makes it mean so much more.
I would have liked to see more detailed character development as they felt a little flat, but that is the only thing I would change. I did enjoy this book enough to entice me to read the next book in the series and follow the McCoy clan on their next adventure.
I am giving this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book appears to be professionally edited with only a few minor errors that did not interfere with the story. There is no foul language but I would recommend this for young adult readers and up due to mild violence.
