What an interesting review. They way the book is set up to honour Jim’s lack of understanding of the Vietnamese language and the vivid descriptions of the Vietnamese countryside caught my attention.

You will find this to be an interesting story about Vietnam during the war. The narrative includes many beautiful descriptions of the culture. Thanks for commenting!

Sounds a good book with a different perspective of Vietnam war. Hope it provides good value for time.

I'm not very interested in the setting, but I think it's lovely that the book is sympathetic towards Vietnamese people. We often hear one side of the story more than the other. Thanks for the review!

It is too bad about the poor translation, because this does sound like a really interesting story and that the author does have a way with words, or at least descriptions.

It is difficult to lower that score when the story is so fascinating. Thanks for commenting.

I don't like war fiction, so I'm going to skip this book. Although, it is nice that the author included a lot of information about Vietnam. Great review!

That fact that it is a translation explains the editing issues but doesn't excuse it. What a shame that it detracts from an otherwise interesting and informative novel.

I agree. It's always a disappointment to find so many errors. It is especially sad when you are enjoying the book! I appreciate your comments. Thanks.

It is interesting to see the stories of both people involved in a war. We are more alike than not. This book sounds like one I would enjoy. Thank you for your wonderful review!
