Toni the superhero by R.D.Base is a book with the purpose to teach young children to read in a simple and fun way. Other children books in the market these days are filled with storylines and plots which is good because these books entertains and teaches children moral lessons but sometimes fail to help the younger kids in learning how to read. Although, Toni the Superhero by R.D.Base does not have a storyline or plot, the story is simple and in short sentences and any child who just started to read will be able understand the book.

Toni is not just a little boy but he is a superhero, the book does not emphasize on his superpowers but on his everyday life and activities. The character is always busy with regular, domestic chores and activities. Toni can be seen reading, dusting, sweeping and helping his mother with the day's work. Toni may be a superhero, but he puts that aside and plays with his friends just like an ordinary boy. Although, Toni is a superhero who flies and saves the day but he eats and sleeps like we all do.

I like the idea of the author, how she used the choice of a superhero for the main character of this book because children do love a character with special abilities. Toni might be a superhero but his character depicted an ordinary boy with daily routines and activities, which children would love to emulate as they read the book. Here in this book, children are not just taught how to read but how to participate in regular chores as Toni the superhero did. Toni can also be seen flying due to his special abilities but it didn't stop Toni from playing with other children and it will go a long way in helping children relate with each other.

Each page contains a colorful and perfect illustration accompanied with a short sentence of simple words. In some cases, an illustration stretched across two pages. This book is perfect for children who are just starting to read and the colorful and recognizable illustrations done by Debbie Hekfe will help the kids enjoy this book.

The book has earned 4 out of 4 stars. This book is loveable due to the type of character used and the way the character Toni was portrayed in the book. This book will surely benefit young children who just started to read due to the usage of short sentences and easily recognizable illustrations.

My 8 year old brother really loved this book, so I agree with you that the main character was very interesting for children to practice their reading!
