Toni the Superhero by R.D. Base is a children's book all about a boy name Toni who is a superhero. The book focuses on the fact that even though he is a superhero he loves to do ordinary things when he is not saving the world as a superhero. He likes to have fun by drawing, playing with friends, dancing, and singing. He also does chores such as dusting, sweeping, and generally helping out around the house. In addition, Toni is shown daily life essentials such as eating and sleeping.

Overall, I believe this is a great book for children who are learning to read. The illustrations and colors really bring the story line to life and will keep a child's attention. The sentences are really simple for anyone who already knows how to read but they are perfect for someone who is learning to read. They are short sentences made of combinations of simple and a little more difficult words. Because of this structure children should be able to sound out the words without interrupting the story line too much.

I also thought the little bit of alliteration that was used was great as this is probably something that would sound interesting to a child learning how to read. Between the structure of the sentences, the alliteration that the author used, and the engaging illustrations any child will enjoy reading the book and parents will love it as it helps their children improve their reading skills.

At the end of the book you learn a little about the author. Even though that section tells you that the author is a mother of three boys and she love to read you really don't need this to understand what type of person R.D. Base is. Throughout the book the reader can tell that she is a loving and caring person devoted to her family as this comes through her writing. She created a character which is fun and engaging but also a good role model to children. The story shows how a child can be fun and helpful which will please the parents by giving their children a good role model and hopefully the children will see Toni as someone to emulate.

I would rate Toni the Superhero a 4 out of 4 stars. I especially liked that the author lists more book titles from this series which would be a great way for parents to interact with their children while improving their skills and teaching them good life lessons in the future.
