I looked through this book and really like the illustrations. Having an ostrich named Priscilla somehow seems a perfect fit for a word collector. This book is for 6 to 9 years old, but I think I'd like to buy it for my great-granddaughter who is only two. The pictures would capture her attention. Well done, Evelyn Dunbar Webb.

Great review! I'm so glad you found this book worthy of four out of four stars.

When you wrote, "The illustrations are beautiful, the writing is age-appropriate, the educational value is huge, and the lessons are lovely" I gave a little cheer. I think I will buy this book for my twin nieces, who will turn six in August! :D

And of course I downloaded this book, too. After reading your review, I can't wait to see George Washington depicted as a bald eagle! :D

Not a bookworm but a word worm is what Priscilla sounds like. This book opens young readers eyes in associating shyness with word pronunciation. Some kids won't speak out because they don't want other kids to laugh at them. Which is similar to Priscilla and her shyness. The illustrations sounds very appealing and interesting. :techie-studyinggray:

:tiphat: As a 4th grade teacher to English Language Leaners, I absolutely ADORE this book! So many wonderful examples of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs! This book would be great for launching a writing unit on complex sentence writing! I can’t wait to see more!!!

review of "The Word Collector" by Evelyn Dunbar Webb.

Just at the beginning you get curious why priscilla gets words writes them down in her note book but, she does not use any and she does not talk to anyone only uses signs and gestures.
But the words she collects makes things interesting, she only collects verbs nouns and adjectives but, she does not collect them randomly she collects in places she visits and the library.
Surprisingly why she was talking she thought she would make a bad friend, when she opened up she made and started using the words and she had made a lot of friends.
this story is just not fun but very educative it will teach children how to use nouns verbs and adjectives...I give it 4stars its a great story

I think the book is great. If there was a book just like this one when I was young maybe I would be an English professor now. I was just too bad at words. I think this book should be upheld by all children, they'll learn and understand things a little better. I certainly recommend this book. When I give birth, even if it takes ten years I will protect this book and pass it on to my children. Its so cool

Thanks so much for this review. As a speech pathologist, I love books that teach vocabulary in a fun and interesting way. Your review tells me that this is a book I want in working with my students. And I love that all the characters are birds. This will add to the vocabulary learning, as I can ask my students what kind of bird they think each is. It sounds super creative. I can't wait to read it with my students. Thanks for a great review!
