It is especially painful to watch children suffer, be it from abuse, sickness, or disorders. Their innocence and inability to process what is even happening to them make the whole thing emotional and heartbreaking. Talking about disorders, it is worrisome that some parents and caregivers often do not understand the behaviors being exhibited by special needs kids and so may not be able to assist them in handling their condition or see reasons to seek professional help for them.

In the children's book, Perfection, Tracy BirdSong addresses the above issues and more through the story of Jaaron, a boy suffering from autism, and his compassionate, supportive sister, Mary Isabelle. As the story begins, Mary informs us about her little brother's condition and immediately notes that she holds a different opinion about it. The rest of the book includes behavioral symptoms of her autistic brother, his incredible abilities, and the assistive measures being taken.

I was impressed by the author's in-depth discussion of the autism spectrum. I have not had contacts with people who are autistic, but reading this book has helped me gain a deep understanding of this condition. I learned about the various challenges that come with it, ranging from behavioral abnormalities (like stimming) to poor coordination and difficulty executing some everyday tasks.

The book's presentation was impressive. The autistic concepts and the professional terms—like echolalia and occupational therapy—mentioned in this book were in red print and followed by a brief explanatory note and a pronunciation guide. The word choices are simple. The book is complemented with bright, reflective paintings. Lastly, the text was thoroughly proofread. I didn't dislike anything in this book, and considering all these merits, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend Perfection by Tracy BirdSong to every child, to parents, caregivers, and special needs institutions and organizations. It is my hope that the content will increase awareness about this condition and help initiate more favorable policies to support the sufferers.

As a prospective reader, I find this review of *Perfection* by Tracy BirdSong both enlightening and encouraging. The review highlights the book's empathetic portrayal of autism through the eyes of a young girl and her brother, which seems like a thoughtful approach to making the complexities of autism accessible to a broader audience. The detailed discussion of autism spectrum behaviors and the inclusion of explanatory notes and pronunciation guides suggest that the book is both informative and reader-friendly. The combination of engaging narrative, educational content, and visual elements sounds like it would provide a comprehensive understanding of autism, especially for those who are new to the subject. Given the positive feedback and high rating, I’m inclined to explore this book further, both for its educational value and its potential to foster greater awareness and understanding of autism.
