"Sigfried’s Smelly Socks!" by Len Foley is an artistic art of mind of the author. Vividly giving the transformation of smell into a meaningful description is a wonderful way to set children's mood and interest. Fabulous!

Although I must admit that this book really wasn’t what I was expecting, I think there are a lot of young children (and adults) who will find this to be a laugh-out-loud read.

You know, when I first read this, I thought the same thing. I started digging deep. I never realized how complex children's stories can be. The simplicity of the story and vibrant illustrations are used to assist children in the transformation process. The idea is to provide a multi-sensory experience that helps advance the child from looking to seeing via visual perception, imitation, and recognition assisted by the development of auditory memory. Short, terse sentences are easier to remember and can be utilized in the development of cognitive functions. This story is smelly, but it's encouraging. It prods children to laugh at themselves, lessens shame, and teaches them to wash their damn socks. My husband should have read this as a child.

As regards the language, I think that one of the challenges that faces the writers of children books is to enrich the language of the child and to be understood by the children at the same time. I think that the writer was successful in this challenge.

Seems like a funny little book. But I agree that gross things are not for all kids. You intrigued me with the images, I want to see how a gross thing is shown to children. And I want to laugh at the last page too. Thank you for the review!

This may appear and sound gross to some group of people but I find it informative and at the same time entertaining. I recommend this book especially to parents who want to widen the knowledge and imagination of their children. Life is not solely compose of sweets and rainbows. Thus, I believe that children should know of this little by little and introducing gross things would be the first step. 😅😅
