thanks for your review. This Sounds like an interesting one. The photos of Bear and the Porter family are indeed adorable. The Porter's sons are surely enjoying Bear's company in the house, the trip and everything is fun with bear.
I think this will be a very interesting piece for kids as they love pets around them. As a matter of fact, I don't think I will read it to the end because I dislike dogs...bears as the author referred to it.

I like the idea of a scrap book feel to a children’s book. Disappointing that there were some grammatical errors and what looks like to be a great concept.

A Spiritual Dog: Bear sounds awesome! It looks like it has a great message since the story puts shelter dogs in a positive light. I think my daughter would like this book. Thanks for sharing your idea about it ^^

Dog lovers will definitely love any stories about pets. It will also teach kids to love animals even at a very young age. I am just a bit worried on the death part. I would rather have the book narrate how Bear lived its life.

Thanks for your review! It's heartwarming that the book is about a rescue dog. I was initially a little put-off by the cover, but I'm happy to hear that the book is engaging for young readers.

This sounds like a lovely story for children, and reinforces the positive effect that pets can bring to a family.

So cute. I’m a big proponent of adoptdontshop, and I agree this is a great tool. This would be wonderful for children whose families are looking to rescue a pet. Thanks for your review.

I’m glad to see another rating that seems appropriate based on the review. I personally think children don’t need a lot of drawn pictures to enjoy a book. Just like adults there are children for every style of writing.

This book looks great! There's not enough good non-fiction children's books, and I look forward to putting this is my nightly reading rotation with my kiddos.

children's non fiction is an interesting concept. I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, but I think I'll give it a try and see what it's about.

Thank you for this review! I had already decided that I was NOT interested in reading this book, and reading the near-final lines of your review confirmed this decision for me: "Although the author’s love for his dog shines through the pages, the writing is a bit flat at times. There are also several grammatical errors in the book, including inconsistent or incorrect tenses."

If, as you said earlier, this is a book with "only a few sentences on each page," such errors would be even more disappointing and aggravating for me. :-(

Besides, I live with a rescued dog of my own. He's five, and since it seems from the description (and your review) that Bear is older and may even have passed over the rainbow bridge, I don't want to read a book that I may find sad. :-/

I like animals and have some dogs of my own. This book sounds interesting to read. Based on this review I would recommend anyone who has children to give it a read. I feel this is a good review and enjoyed reading it.

Thank you for your thoughtful and honest review. I love to see new children’s books. Too bad about the errors. Children actually learn proper grammar and mechanics from reading, so editing is so much more important.
