Review of Odonata The Flying Jewel of Maiden Grass Pond
Odonata: The Flying Jewel of Maiden Grass Pond, written by Barbara Gervais Ciancimino, is a storybook for young children. It's a story about a dragonfly called Odonata. Odonata wanted to play with other dragonflies, but nobody wanted to be his friend. For some reason, he was ignored, mocked, and often bullied by other dragonflies. One day, when it became stormy in the sky, it started to rain, and something happened that changed his life forever. He was never the same again, and neither was his life. What made Odonata the subject of dragonflies' insults and mockery? What happened on that stormy day? How did Odonata manage the new challenges coming his way? Grab this captivating short storybook to find out the answers.
It’s a wonderful book for little children. All the pages are filled with brilliant, colorful illustrations. It’s not just a story; it also teaches children essential values about courage, caring for others, acceptance of each other’s differences, and being non-judgmental. I enjoyed reading this story, and I liked the simple flow. I also liked the book's layout, with every page full of illustrations and small paragraphs of text. I found the illustrations of a bullfrog in the story that lived in the same pond very funny, and I loved them. At the end of the book, there is a list of fun scientific facts about dragonflies that I found very interesting and informative.
There was absolutely nothing to dislike about the book. The story is simple, engaging, and wonderfully told. It easily captures the attention of young children. The book is well-edited too. I only found a single grammatical error, and I don’t find it sufficient to subtract stars from its rating. I, thus, rate this book 5 out of 5. This book is suitable for children under 8 or 9, but I believe older children may find this brief reading interesting too. Parents can also read this story to their babies and toddlers.
