Review of The Three Little Monsters and the Cranky King
Often, we are judged wrongly or we may judge others wrongly because we do not know them well enough. This may deprive us of rewarding friendships and associations. The Three Little Monsters and the Cranky King by Teydon Rae is an intriguing story about a misjudged king.
Taft, Barkley, and Spur were three little playful monsters who were best of friends. They loved to play soccer. They were subjects of the feared King Spallenzairek. They were often warned by their parents against going to the king's castle, otherwise, they would get eaten. They heeded their parent's well-intentioned advice until one day while playing soccer, they ventured close to the king's castle. They hit the ball so high that it went flying straight into one of the open windows of the castle and landed on the king's head. Would the little monsters ever get out of the castle grounds alive or would this rendezvous be the end of them? Find out from this intriguing book.
I had a lovely time reading this book. The narrative was descriptive and imaginative. I felt as if I was with the little monsters playing soccer. The story is quite captivating, and the grammar is simple and appropriate for kids. My favorite feature is the colorful and expressive pictures in the book. They were well illustrated and attractive. I've never seen monsters look so beautiful and adorable.
The only dislike I have about this book is the impulsiveness of the three friends. They went to the castle without the consent of their parents. This may encourage young readers to carry out acts of disobedience. I would have preferred it if they had sought the consent of their parents or if they had been accompanied to the castle by their parents. Therefore guardians can help young readers understand that it is never acceptable to be disobedient.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is exceptionally well edited. The story was well developed and beautifully concluded. Kids between the ages of 3 and 7 years would find the story captivating.
