Review of The Bird Ride
The Bird Ride by Wade W. Bergner is a delightful children’s story about a young boy who meets a special bird. The young boy was playing with his toy cars in the front yard. He loved to imagine traveling to many different places in his toy cars. On this particular day, the boy was visited by a bluebird. The boy stared at the bird and began to feel a connection. The bird takes the boy on an interesting adventure. Suddenly, the boy is back at home. Was his adventure real, or was it all a dream?
I really enjoyed this children’s story. The author points out the importance of slowing down and noticing the beauty around you. The author uses a fun and engaging story to teach children about mindfulness and gratitude. As adults, we often rush our children through the day since we are in a hurry. It is important for children to learn to slow down and enjoy the world. This book is also a good reminder for parents to do the same. There are many children’s books about feelings, but I have never read one like this. The bird gives the child a unique perspective on people and their interactions. I like the discussion questions that the author added at the end of the book. This book may be a bit confusing to younger readers, so it would be good to use the discussion questions to help the children understand the lessons in this story.
There are only a couple of minor things that I did not like about this book. The cover of this book did not attract my attention. I had no idea what this book was about before reading the description. I would probably walk right past it in a book store. Also, the beginning of this story is slow. A child may have trouble staying engaged long enough to get to the more interesting parts of the story.
The issues that I had with this book were minor. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I believe that this is an important topic to teach your children. I did not find any editing errors in this book, so it is clearly professionally edited. I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It’s a great children’s book, and the small issues were not reason enough to deduct a star.
I highly recommend this book to parents and teachers. Elementary school-aged children could benefit from the lessons in this book. The discussion questions would be great for teachers to talk through with their students.
