The Forest Fairies by Chez Rafter is an illustrated children’s book. It focuses on the impact litter has on nature.

The Rubbish Rebellion is a collection of fairies that work around the world. They clean up trash in the forests left behind by campers. They stop Styrofoam and paper cups from ending up in the river. They collect things that animals might try to eat. When a campfire gets out of hand, they put the fire out. Is there anything campers can do to avoid leaving trash in the forests? I guess we’ll find out.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful and vibrant. They take up full pages without being overwhelming. The colors are vibrant making them extremely appealing to young readers. They were easily my favorite part of this book.

There is no clear meter to the rhyming lines. When reading a children’s book aloud, it’s important to move seamlessly between lines. There were parts of this book where that wasn’t as easy as it should have been. However, it wasn’t that difficult to flow through the story. While this was my least favorite thing about the book, it wasn’t enough to stop me from sharing this book with my nieces. Additionally, I found no grammatical or spelling errors.

The story is simple with a good moral. While it talks about campers, I feel this could easily translate to a simple trip to the park for a child. It tells them not to leave garbage in nature. Not only is it bad for the environment, but the poor fairies will have to clean it up.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. While the meter annoyed me, it wasn’t enough for me to remove a star. I would recommend this to young readers and parents. It is a good book for an adult to read to a child since the illustrations are engaging. It is also a good book for beginner readers since it includes simple words.

This sounds like a great book to cultivate environmental awareness in schools. It shows the damaging effects of littering, encourages children to care for nature and teaches them how they can take part to help make our world a better place. This sounds like a cute book for kids. I am a little confused about why anyone would be motivated to pick up the trash if it is the fairies job to do it?? I enjoyed your descriptions of the illustrations. Thanks!

Fairies are definitely one way to talk about the dangers of littering and why we shouldn't do that. There's definitely mass appeal for kids here and I hope that young ones learn from it.
