Old Blue is a dog who has found it hard to find a home. He later meets a family that cares for him, but unfortunately, the water in the city turns bad. The family is financially stressed as they have to look for alternative means of getting good water. As a result, they couldn’t care for Blue anymore.

Blue wanders away from his home, thinking of how he would survive. After weeks of wandering without food or water, he finds a small farmhouse with appetizing food in it. What’s going to happen to Blue? Would the animals welcome him into their barn? Will he survive? Will he ever find a good home? These, among many questions, will draw on your curiosity as you read this book.

The Barnyard Buddies Meet a Newcomer is a unique children’s book for kids within the age grade of 3-9 years old, written by Julie Penshorn, edited by Rebecca Janke, and illustrated by Jeanine-Jonee Keith. These three creators do a great job in children’s book genre, and their profile gives their work more credit. They intend to impact a positive mentality of peace and kindness in kids so that as they grow, they would become a positive influence on others.

Animal characters have been proven to be great illustrators in children’s books as they attract and maintain the children’s attention. They make the book fun. Reading this book with kids will make it more fun. The author helped by providing guides and activities to be used in teaching the kids the important lessons of the story.

What I like most is the life lessons this book teaches kids and the activities section. I also like how brief and fast-paced the book is. However, I least like the last two pages from Parents and Educator Guide to Activities because the writings were blurred. I was trying hard to read them and zooming in did not help. I think the creators of this book need to improve the quality of the writings on those pages.

The author’s writing style is descriptive, the book’s pace is well developed, and the story is engaging. The book was proofread carefully. I did not notice any error. So, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I strongly recommend this book to parents and children educators. This book is a wonderful material for teaching kids good behaviour and participative decision making.
