Review by Anthony__ -- The Barnyard Buddies Meet a Newcomer
The story is about Blue, a lonely dog, that is hungry and needs a place to stay. Finally, he saw a farmhouse and a barn after wandering for many days in search of food. However, he met other animals that were contemplating on whether to give him food and shelter or not. Their major concern was Farmer Jim, the farm owner. Portland thought the farmer did not like strangers. King thinks he might be harmful when fully fed and chase the chickens. Other animals want Blue to stay. In other to reach an agreement, they must vote. Either Blue stays, or he goes away. Find out what happens to Blue by reading this book?
The most amazing part of the book is the discussion section. I was fascinated by the level of information Julie passed across using animals. This book is only a few pages with amazing artworks. Also, I think the best way to maximize the teachings in this book is to use it as a workbook for kids. That way, the teacher will make this book interactive and more educative. Furthermore, utilizing the “Conversation Starters” at the ending part of the book will help the children to become adult-decision makers.
However, I experienced difficulties in memorizing the names. It would have been much better if Julie introduced the animals’ names at the beginning of the book. Other than that, I enjoyed my reading experience.
In conclusion, I rate The Barnyard Buddies Meet a Newcomer4 out of 4 stars. I gave it all the stars because it is well-edited and flawless (I did not find any typographical or grammatical errors in it). The artwork and illustrations are well-crafted. Therefore, I recommend this book to children between the ages of 7 to 14 years old. However, parents can guide them through the moral teachings in the book.
