Review of Tales of Spooner Pond

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Tales of Spooner Pond" by Terry Rasner.]
Tales of Spooner Pond by Terry Lynn Rasner is a young adult fantasy story about Pippy, or Pippysqueak, as her dad called her. Pippy had an argument with her dad over the drawing on the wall and her claims that she had gone to a beautiful place in her dreams. She believed she had gone there because she met the voice that had been calling her, and she was able to walk and kick grass in that place. Her parents didn't believe her and had to take her to Mrs. Sopher, who was a counselor. To Pippy’s surprise, Mrs. Sopher seemed to believe her. Truggles, her new friend who had been calling her, told her she had been chosen and that she was truly in Spooner Pond.
The place called Spooner Pond is full of unique creatures referred to as palimals. They became great friends with her, and they got along well. After several visits to the new place, Pippy was taught ways she could enter Spooner Pond, which were called thwortals, and was told she could bring friends with her. She chose Howie and Sarah. Why was she told she was the chosen one? What mission awaited her in Spooner Pond? Why did Mrs. Sopher seem to believe her? Read more to find out.
The story is full of suspense and plot twists. When I thought I had it all figured out, more questions and curiosities crossed my mind because the story took a new, unexpected turn. Most characters were well developed except for Pippy's parents. I expected to know more about their reactions. I loved how the characters interacted: Pippy, Howie, Sarah, Feathers, the Furry One, Truggles, and Joe Kitty. They all had good chemistry and unity.
My favorite scene was the Afar All-Universe Power & Magic Championship Contest. I truly felt like one of the spectators. I could picture the whole contest in my mind, and I surely enjoyed it. The author vividly described all the events such that I couldn't get lost, and it made the reading experience exciting. Unity, patience, resourcefulness, persistence, and truthfulness were the best values I learned from the story. Another thing was always being keen when being taught, just as Pippy was, and the lessons she learned came in handy later in the story.
The book was exceptionally well edited, as I couldn't find any grammatical errors. I must say, though the ending was not what I expected, it ultimately ended well. Young adults would surely enjoy the story. I couldn't give the book any rating other than a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. I couldn't find anything to dislike about the book.
