Perhaps the author was trying to give Valentine the vampire a deeply spiritual persona when he was including the bibilical stuff.
Too bad he missed the point and the character ended up being inconsistent. I would have loved to see the author get away with a deeply religious vampire for a main character. Just to savour the irony of it.
