Artio: The Storm of Stars by J.G. Atwell is a magic fantasy novel that is set on the fictional continent of Artio. The continent of Artio, where the story is set, comprises several nations along with the Resolute Isles. The protagonist of the book, Sir Edward Polaris, is the second son of the Polaris Dukedom in the kingdom of Aegis. He is treated by his family as a second-class citizen. His success is muted, and he is maligned by his family to make him a person of no consequence so that there is a possibility of him usurping the Dukedom from his elder brother or nephew and a civil war breaking out in the Dukedom. Despite all this, Edward is one with great talent and skill and an affinity for fire magic; he is one of the only ten people on the continent to have that. As we follow the story of Edward in this book, how he was tossed to and fro without a say in what happens to him, we also see other stars whose lives have been threatened by the institutions that they once trusted.

Artio had once been ravaged by an event called the Cataclysm several years ago. This event brought so much death and devastation. Now there are signs that a long-time prophecy is about to be fulfilled. Though magic was very prevalent previously, with the cataclysmic event, the use of magic was diminished. In Artio, there are a lot of political manipulations going on in the quest for power, betrayal by family and country, and war. What is the fate of Edward in all of these? Will he survive despite the odds being stacked against him from birth?

What I found most enjoyable about the novel was the character of Edward Polaris. I enjoyed reading everything about him. His humility and his commitment to those with whom he lived were two of the things that endeared me to him. He also shows great talent and skill. His desire to learn how to control his fire gift even though he had to leave the comfort of his home was a plus for me. Even though he was the son of the Duke, he did not look down on the people; he also displayed inquisitiveness, a very necessary trait. Edward would not turn his back on someone in need and was always ready to help.

The editor's skill in this book is exceptional, as evidenced by the absence of any typos or grammar errors. It was a pleasurable experience reading this novel. The author keeps the readers entertained from the beginning of the novel to the end, and there are no dull moments. The intrigue, the magic, and the bravery shown by these characters already set the tone for an interesting novel. The story gave me goosebumps as the book came to a close, and I look forward to seeing what next happens to Edward and what role he will play in the fulfillment of the prophecy in the next book. I commend the author for weaving an exceptional tale and the way the characters' lives intersected at different points, forming alliances in this journey.

The book gets a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of the engrossing narrative by the author. Additionally, I couldn’t find anything to dislike about the book. I recommend this book to lovers of magic fantasy novels and young adults who enjoy an epic tale about love, magic, and the fulfillment of a prophecy.
