The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. One of the best books out there in my opinion.

I recently finished The House of Scorpion. It had a great combination of social issues and science paired with a great story.

If you are into modern vampire books, read Twilight Saga and House of Night.

I am trying to read all of James Patterson's books, no matter what the targeted audience age. If you like mystery and just a touch of science fiction, try the Confessions series. If you love fantasy, I strongly recommend Maximum Ride. If you find that you enjoy the author, you might wish to read the Witch and Wizard although it borders between children's and Young Adult.

A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb has stuck with me over the years. It has a sequel that I haven't read yet because I'm scared it won't be as good as the first. It's an amazing book though! Interesting story line and definitely nothing like I've read before. It was one of my random library finds when I was 16.

House of Night is a great series. My 17 year old is reading it now. I read it and enjoyed it up until Destined. It does start to feel like they are trying to drag the series out too long. Otherwise very good quick read.

Hi! if you're a fan of fantasy books, you might wanna try Sky fall series by Shannon Messenger. It's a good, easy read perfect for a quick escape from reality. Also, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, is one of my all time favorites. It might be too mainstream, but I swear, it's worth it. :D 8) hope that helps!

Some of these might be borderline children's fiction, but they're great so I'm going to include them anyways! :D

His Dark Materials Series by Philip Pullman
The Time Quintet by Madeleine L'Engle
The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley
Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan
The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney
The Once Upon a Time Series, multiple authors. All the books are stand alone, and all retell a different fairytale.
Blind Faith by Ellen Writtingler

And then there are any of the books by Rick Riordan, they're listed below.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (Greek Mythology)
The Heros of Olympus by Rick Riordan (Greek/Roman Mythology)
The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan (Greek Mythology)
The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan (Egyptian Mythology)
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan (Norse Mythology)

I've definitely got more recommendations if you want them!
