I love the feminism in the premise. You do the book great credit by comparing it to To Kill a Mockingbird, and I hope it lives up to your praise!

This book sounds like a great read. As an avid historical fiction reader, and a feminist to boot, this is definitely going on my to-read list. :techie-reference:

Great review. I am always blown away when I read about times before women had equal rights. It just feels so prehistoric to me. I'm very thankful I was born after those brace women fought for women's rights. Though I'd like to think I'd have sacrificed my bra to a bonfire. Seriously though. I really can't wait to read this book. I love strong heroines and am a huge fan of Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird. Thanks for the great review.

Great review. I'm going to read this after reading your review. I really loved to kill a mocking bird so the fact that they are similar makes me want to read this even more.

this is a book i think i would enjoy reading and, in several years, sharing with my oldest daughter. i liked the easy style of the writing in the sample. i like the universal ideas addressed of independence, honesty and loyalty. i really like coming-of-age stories, too.

I read the first ten pages and struggled to get through them. Perhaps, according to your review, I was a little too hasty.
Thank you for your review, and I may have to give this one a second look.

This book sounds like something you would want to share with your daughter as someone suggested in an other post. There are some topics in this book by the sound of the review that is still really prevalent today. Racism , values that you need too stand for no matter who tries to influence you other wise. Stigmas of that day are still real today but people are better at hiding it today. T he young girl sounds like real trooper or as some would say perhaps she had an old soul because of the way she saw things and took her stand, regardless of the pressure. Sounds like she had some charming wit about her . Hey thanks for this great review.
