No, not at all. The religious aspect of the book consisted of church folk rejecting the young pregnant girl, and the mother-in-law's incessant critizing. Don't let it deter you from reading this excellent story. You would really miss out.truebookaddict wrote:This really does sound like a good one. Did you find that it was overtly religious? I know the description on Amazon says it is. I'm just curious, as I don't like to read books with a lot of religious overtones.
Great review!

That was one of my favorite parts of the book, too! That girl was fearless.Vermont Reviews wrote:Excellent review. Great choice for book of the day. I loved the preview my favorite part was when Patty Jo stole the boy's pants. And she saves the brother who chases he before he gets hit by the train.

She sees hypocrisy and struggles to understand the inconsistencies between people's platitudes and their actions. Patti Jo often gives words to her thoughts unfiltered, and has to suffer the consequences.
I'm coming very late to this but I loved your review and I love the sound of the book. I'd really like to read this - need to check it out anyway, to decide whether the younger members of my (British) family could cope with history element.
