Finally an Answer and Beyond the Next Chapter by Joanne Calcagno is fiction that talks about the life of Laurie, which continues from the first book on her life, Finally an Answer. In this book, the author displays the life of Laurie, who has experienced emotional and mental difficulties and illnesses for most of her life. The author writes from Laurie’s point of view, telling us how she navigates her life, manages her mental illness, and still lives and experiences her best life.

Laurie is a college student working towards her degree to become an elementary teacher one day, despite her illness. In this book, coupled with her illness, she still faces life’s unending and difficult problems, and as you read, you wonder if and how she will handle these problems.

I always appreciate a simple, short, and relaxing read, which is what this book is. This makes it easily lovable. The characterization, plot, diction, and setting were kept short and simple. I loved how the writer showcased the life of a manic depressive in the book, showing us that they, too, face the same life problems and have a harder time dealing with them. Most of all, I loved that there were just a few errors in the book, which provided an easy flow to reading the book.

However, there was one thing I didn’t like about the book, which was that it lacked any form of emotion or life. I felt like it was so simple and short that there was no room to connect with the book's characters, including the main character, Laurie. The book didn’t connect with me as a reader.

I will say that the book was professionally edited, as there were only a few errors identified in the book. I will be rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. This is because of the negative aspect identified above. I recommend this book to people suffering from different types of mental illnesses and those living with people suffering from mental illnesses.
