This book definitely sounds like my type of read. I was initially a little unsure whenever I was reading some of the sample, but from what you've described it sounds like something I'd enjoy. Especially the curiosity of Erik when it comes to this forest near his house because I know I'd probably be the same way too.

A YA fantasy novel in which two friends unknowingly encounter the dark arts and one of them ends up with a curse. Both of them have no idea about what's going on or how to deal with it, so it will be quite interesting to follow the events as they unravel.

I'm not a big YA fan, but this fantastical book which seems like it has a great mix of adventure and excitement, could be an amazing addition the genre. Candlewood seems like a great setting for the book to take place.

This must be really enthralling for a reader to wish that it was the first part of a series. I would love to read it also and see how Erik finally got himself out of the trouble he got into. It seems he is quite daring which is what makes the book more interesting too.

I don't care how old am I, I still love reading YA genre books! The sense of adventures and mysticism never bored me. I think I'm rooted with Erik now with evaporated curiosity of the mysterious forest which none would dare to venture through.

I have read a few great YA fantasy novels and this one sounds like it will rank up with those. I love the sound of the adventures with Gothic tones and a Victorian setting. Definitely one for the to-be-read pile. Thanks for your insight!
