Good review. I'm always not comfortable with the issue of transgender and transitioning people. I'll pass this one.

I wish there were more YA novels out there like this one. It is so wonderful to hear that the author touched upon these controversial issues in a sensitive and meaningful way. I didn't think a book like this would appeal to me, but after reading the review, it sounds like the author does a great job of immersing the reader in the main character's shoes. I look forward to reading this book, and I am glad the author has tackled transgender issues with such poise. Thanks for the great review!

Great review there. I don't personally care for transgender stories and doubt my mind has been changed, but I'm glad you had a swell time reading.

I enjoyed reading The Danish Girl which deals about a similar topic.
The blurb at the beginning of this book threw me off at first but then I realized that it might reach those who know less about transgender people.

It's important that the topics of transexuality and transitioning are understood by a wide audience. It's great that this book is so well-written, because that ensures that it is a helpful resource.

While reading the first part of the prompt, I thought that John might be gay, and I got quite excited, because it's not very often where you find a character realizing their sexuality. Then he opened the box with clothes, and I honestly gasped out loud. If there is something that is even rarer than discovering sexuality, it's anything dealing with transitioning and being transgender. Safe to say I rushed through these pages and will definitely be reading this soon!

I've just read the sample and immediately the quality of the story shines through. I like your comment about everyone needing to read a book like this, and it made me think what a great idea if it could be incorporated into a high school syllabus. Great review

This book is not something I would read because of the theme, but I did look at the sample. I liked the graphics that went along with the chapter number. The writing itself was well done. For a YA fiction I was surprised to see profanity in it. It is usually not the case because of the potential young readers.

I like how there were a variety of characters in the book because I enjoy reading books that have a lot of characters in them. I think I may add this to my reading list. Great job on the review!

"My Ladybird Story" sounds like a great coming of age book that is hitting on a very tough subject. John is coming to terms with his sexuality and trying to find himself through the most rough and formative years of our lives, and carries into adulthood. It is good to hear that stories can still affect people's lives and thinking as this one has with the reviewer and many others, I'm sure. With a bronze medal for 2016 Moonbeam Children's Book Award, the writing style and good story, this definitely sounds like a good book to read for many. Thanks for your great review. 📚

I'm glad you enjoyed this book! I have to say, I do like Magus Tor's writing style. I find the idea of readers watching John grow up so cool, but I'll have to pass on this book. It's not something I'm particularly interested in reading about at this time. I hope those who read enjoy My Ladybird Story as much as you did.

I don't feel that this book will appeal to me but I think you did a good job with the review.
