Every Soul A Star by Wendy Mass

Post by Rashel_Booklove »

Every Soul A Star is a heartwarming story that follows the lives of three thirteen year olds. Bree, Jack and Ally.
Bree is a major "beauty queen", she is the "it clique" at her school, she wants to be a model, her goals are to be prom queen and to be on the cover of seventeen before she is seventeen.
Ally is a tomboy who couldn't care less of her appearance, she lives at a campsite called "Moon shadow" that her family owns and her life goal is to become an astronomer and to discover one of the Messier Objects.
Jack is a self conscious, slightly overweight boy who loves reading, drawing and lucid dreaming or as he calls "flying".

These three thirteen year olds paths cross at moon shadow.
Jack failed science this past school year so he is stuck with either going to summer school or going to a field trip with his science teacher to go watch an eclipse at Moon Shadow.
Bree's family decided to pack up and move out to Moon Shadow to take the place of Ally and her family as caretakers of the campsite, Bree is really upset because now there is no way she will get a modeling job and she will have to be homeschooled without any friends.
Ally's parents decide to pack the kids up after the eclipse and move them to Chicago and have the kids go to public school.

When Ally and Bree meet each other they try to come up with a plan to convince their parents that neither family needs to move but their plan fails. Jack developes a crush on Ally which she is oblivious to.
Bree decides to teach Ally the ropes to looking presentable for school, so in return Ally teaches Bree everything she needs to know about Moon Shadow.

In the end the eclipse really helps all three of the thirtenn year old accept their fate. Ally and Bree accept the fact that they have whole new lives ahead of them and Jack overcomes his self confidence issues.

I'm reading this right now for a possibile state committee book. I'm loving it, but I think it's too old.
