Live and Let Die by Theron Maynard is a 191-page book that tells Shawn and Taylor's complicated love story. It is written in the form of a journal by the two parties. Family, friendship, selflessness, and forgiveness are some of the themes expressed in this book.
Taylor realized that Shawn loved her unconditionally and felt guilty. So, she ended the relationship because she thinks that Shawn is too good for her. The breakup leaves both in a state of hurt and loneliness. Taylor seems to be affected the most as she begins to go down a dangerous path filled with drugs and alcohol. Also, she lost some loved ones during this period. She and Shawn spend their entire school years battling hidden emotions and a lot of hurt and pain. While Shawn is always there for her, he feels that he can't love her romantically again. Can Taylor get out from the deep dark hole? Will the two lovebirds end up together? This storyline is an exceptional one that details what love genuinely entails. The book portrays the emotional part of a relationship. I love how the author told the story from both Taylor and Shawn's point of view. That made it easy for the reader to see the complete picture and understand things from both perspectives. The book also teaches the core family and friendship values. I admired the friendship between Skylar and Taylor and that of Asher and Shawn.
Love is not all about happy moments and laughter. It can be complicated at times, and the struggles, pains, and tears show the potency of love. I must commend the author for conveying such emotions through the characters. I could feel the pain, jealousy, anger, and joy experienced by both Taylor and Shawn. Also, the author was able to show how easy it is to turn to vices like alcohol and drugs when one gets lonely and depressed. The destruction and pains that come with it were well-crafted. For these reasons, I am awarding Live and Let Die4 out of 4 stars.
The book was adequately organized, and the events were well-detailed. The storyline is also very engaging. The book's characterization includes major and minor characters that were well-developed with clearly expressed roles. The descriptions were perfect, and the book had a very real-life setting. My favorite character in the book is Shawn. I love how he was always there to help Taylor whenever she went down a dark path. Above all, the scene I enjoyed the most in the book was when Taylor asked for forgiveness outside Shawn's uncle's workshop.
In conclusion, there is nothing to dislike about this book. It has a way of reminding a reader about the importance of love, friendship, and family. I found only a few grammatical and punctuation errors, which proved that it was professionally edited. I recommend this book to lovers of romantic stories. The book contained a few sexual scenes but nothing explicit. It also had instances of vulgar words.
