Reading about wars and how it affects the lives of the people in the immediate environment is always very interesting.

Great review.

The book seems to have a lot of history based facts in it, which, if you are into that is cool. But I'm not into this book, so I am going to pass. Great review.

Well written review from a well written book. This book seem to examine the impact of war generally and I'd like to know how little Johnny was able to rise above the impacts.

It does sound like this book provides a harmonious balance of plot points and characterizations. Imprisonment, confinement, starvation, and liberation seem to form the base layer of any war novel, but I appreciate that this one provides readers with a youthful perspective that’s often hard to find. Thank you for such a thorough analysis and review!

While I read through the review, am impressed that this book would be pretty about wars and the victims of them. It is really not my type of novel. I commend the author for such characters as Johnny and his mother, they would make this novel enjoyable.

This book is centred on WW II and it's effects on the youths especially Johnny. The author did a great job. Kudos to him and Congrats on BOTD!

Telling the tale of war from a teen's perspective sounds interesting. This must have been hard for Johnny. I look forward to reading this.

It sounds like a novel of graphic content. I get scared with reading about wars. However, I will give this one a try.

You certainly have captured all the interesting and intriguing parts of this book and showed us that this is a book that we should share to all the young adult readers in our lives, that are able to handle the hard truths and references to real life during this time period. You did an outstanding job with your review!!!

With so many books set during wars focused on the actual military action, it can be easy to forget the struggles of the civilians, including those in internment camps. This book sounds like it brings focus to not only such civilians as they attempt to survive in an unimaginable time but also in a country that isn’t always covered thoroughly when we in the US are taught about World War II (at least not when I went). Thank you for the helpful review.

The way I see it, Harry is a cornerstone piece of this story. His sense of humor is important here as it would be in reality in the context of a tense situation like WWII. It's healthy sometimes to be able to laugh in the midst of pain. This sounds like a great war-era story.

This is a war story so one could be forgiven for expecting talk about the war itself and the way the different waring parties applied strategy to distabilize their enemies. In this book, the author opted to focus on the humanity of the story—hence Johnny, a young American boy is the central character. Often times, we remember the fights and the soldiers but forget the people caught in the line of fire. This author does not make that mistake.

I enjoy reading war stories from a specific character's perspective. I find it interesting to see how the war affected them on a more personal level. I would love to read this book and learn more about Johhny's experience in the internment camp. It seems as if the author did a great job at capturing the correct tone for this book, and I look forward to an immersive and captivating reading experience. Thanks for the excellent review!

A 12 year old being the narrator of this book sounds intriguing. It's sad being in a difficult situation and not knowing if a loved one is even safe or alive. I would like to see the outcome of Johnny's life while held captive. Congrats on Botd.
