I like the fact that the author's tone and character development work perfectly for the interview audience - young adults. It would be interesting to read Johnny's perspective on this important part of history, and I am looking forward to reading it. Thank you for this wonderful review!

Sounds like an interesting book that sheds light about the intellect and experiences of the American youths. I rarely read books that fall on Young Adult genre, but this seems to be an informative and exciting read. I'll add it to my want to read bookshelf. Congratulations on being the BOTD.

This book has got an interesting storyline and appealing characters. I'm more so intrigued by the perspective from which it was written.

I haven't read a book about the war from a teen's perspective. This is a different but still a difficult tale of war. Congratulations on the review. Good job.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. It is rare to find humor in war time, but through the eyes of a child anything is possible...

Really felt the pain, perfectly weaved plot. Waiting for the good times to look for a while. Thanks for the generic review.

War clearly affects the lives of individuals. I'd love to know how the life of this young boy was shaped based on this war. Nice review.

Like the reviewer disclosed, it's quite unusual to find a historical fiction book without a lot of background info, and I particularly think it makes reading boring. Regardless, this is an amazing book. Congratulations on the book of the day.

It is a unique approach for the author to use this book that is centred on world war II to mainly focus on the emotional impact that this war had on an adolescent.

This story takes place in Manila during World War 2. It is narrated through the eyes of a twelve year old boy named Johnny who is put into a camp with his mother by the Japanese. The official review was very good and I look forward to finishing this book.

I guess this read should cater well to the young adults as it is intended. The story of a teen stuck in a war camp, with the intriguing plot seems interesting. I am not a young adult but I may give this a try. Thank you for the review!

I am grateful that I was able to read this book. The Japanese war against the Americans and Filipinos was one of the dreadful events in Philippine history. The fall of Bataan, the death march, and the Nanking rape were events that nobody wants to happen again.
Reading is a journey to the world.
