I get paid not to write. My last poem blinded three readers. I can't swim either. [:- (

*LOL* No, I've never been paid for anything I've written. I write only as a hobby.

Depends on what I'm writing. Some places I submit to pay if they accept my work, some competitions pay (that was one the university entered for me though so I don't know if you'd count that). I write medical articles for a dashboard so if someone buys those, I get paid a little. And one day I hope to finish a novel and publish it, so hopefully then? Otherwise, submitting to places that don't pay money, or writing things I don't plan to try and publish, or fanfiction or university assignments (technically, we pay for those instead, lol).

As for why I write, for the most part I like writing. It's a hobby, and a free one for the moment so I don't have to worry about my debt (from university fees, mostly) getting any bigger. And I can write while I'm at lectures, or on attachments, or in the train/bus, or not feeling particularly sleepy... Not between exams, sadly. They take all our scrap paper.

I've had the odd payment from a published short story, but would ideally love to more professional and be able to eke out a living from writing. At the moment it's on average one small payment every 3 or 4 years, which won't exactly pay the mortgage :wink2:

It's a mix of both for me. Yeah, I get paid to write and I also do enjoy storytelling (fiction or nonfiction) 😂

I've never been paid for writing, but I hope that will change in the future.
Writing reviews on this site would basically be the first experience I have in regards to writing as a service.
Also, I would love if the people who said they get paid for it on this thread could share which site they use. That would be great.

Most of what I write is fanfic, which, uh, I can't ask for money for. XD

I sold a couple of short stories, but that was several years ago. I keep trying though.

Yes, I have a writing & editing business. The problem is that I have to write on a lot of subjects I don't like at this point (product descriptions, etc.) but it's all paying my dues to get where I want to be. It can be hard to get people to pay you what you're worth in this industry unless you've already hit a lot of popularity with your business.

Yes, I sold quite a few stories and articles to various newspapers and some magazines.
Now I'm getting royalties on some books I wrote.

I don't write for money. Mostly I write to tell a story. I am actually a recovering addict and alcoholic. I share my story to hopefully help that next suffering alcoholic and addict  :D

I wish I could get paid to write. I have had many poems published but never for money. Also, I just love to write and so write all the time. But I have never been paid for it.

If only I did :) I don't recall being paid for anything I've written yet unfortunately... Maybe sometime in the future!
