The Movie vs. Book

Post by alexanderian »

Was the movie, "The Book Thief" better than the book? It has come out already right? Sometimes the books are way better than the movie.

I have heard of several books that have been based on movies and are written and published after the movie becomes a hit. I have never read one of them, but the reviews would indicate that the books seldom measure up to the popularity or quality of the movies.

Recently I read 'A Most Wanted Man' by Le Carre. I have to say it was a bit of an effort to keep going due to the lack of tension and too many POVs. Last week I saw the film. I really enjoyed it. It followed the same story line (which doesn't always happen in the transition) but had the ability to grip and want to keep watching.

What does that say about book to film? Absolutely nothing. I have seen books to film that in my opinion make better films than books and I've seen ones that have failed. I suppose success depends on too many variables to say overall that it works or doesn't work.

I loved The Book Thief, the book. I thought it was way better than the movie. Not to say the movie was bad, but the book was so much better

The book and the movie were both excellent, but in different ways. I was terrified that they were going to massacre the book, but the moviemakers did a really amazing job.

I also felt that the book and the movie were good in their own ways, although I tend to lean more towards the book. I love the details and how the events were portrayed in the book, but the movie did make me feel similar emotions as I felt while reading the book. I also felt that the movie was casted well, and included most of the major events that were critical to the plot and effectiveness that was portrayed in the book.

I liked the movie, I think it was well done, but in my opinion the book is just much better. Death as narrator is an interesting point of view and gives a whole new way of looking at a story - the movie did not emphazise this aspect enough for my taste.

Book definiately better than movie. But the movie brought home the final scene with much better impact.

I have currently only seen the movie, but based upon what everyone is saying about the book, I am quite excited to read it since I really enjoyed the movie!

I can borrow it from you and then tell you all about when I finish it. :) I've got just enough free time to fit it in. :P

I actually liked the movie better. It captured the suspense and same tense moments of the plot that the book had, and I think the ending was made very powerful with the visuals.

I thought the book was better than the movie story-wise. I did like in the movie how it dramatically decreased the amount of swearing and religious exclamations used my Markus Zusak and I thought the filming was done quite well. It just missed out on a lot of the events conceived by the author's mind. It was definitely a book that should be read not necessarily seen, but it was interesting still to watch.

Most of the times the books are far better than the movies, so i suggest we should read the books first then watch the movie, in this way we can judge both of them better, otherwise if you watch the movie first and then the book, it kind of make to lose the interest in the book. So books first then movies.
