Calder Benedict was born into money and is used to everyone assuming she is nothing but a spoiled rich girl, even though she started a charity fresh out of graduate school and turned it into a multi-million-dollar foundation. The men in her life have always been either incredibly boring or after her money, so Calder has given up on finding love. That is, until she runs into Adam Stone. He isn’t what she wants but is exactly what she needs. Unfortunately, her parents are a train wreck which threatens Calder and everything she has and loves.
Adam Stone has worked hard for everything he has. Once a navy man, Adam is used to working hard for the things he wants and although he has become a bit polished over the years of running his own business, Adam has always been a working-class man. When Calder Benedict runs into him, the last thing on his mind is love but he can’t deny the scorching hot attraction between them. However, people from his past don’t like Calder and are determined to get her out of the picture.
One Way or Another is the first installment of The Sisters Quartet series by author Mary J. Williams. The series follows the Benedict sisters on their various journeys to finding love. My favorite part of One Way or Another is the banter, not only between Calder and Adam, but with Calder and her sisters as well. I caught myself either smiling or laughing quite a few times throughout the book. Williams’ attention to detail is phenomenal, the character descriptions and surroundings were very well detailed. I had no problem seeing them in my mind and being sucked into the world the author created.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance, but there is also humor, a little action and some mystery throughout the book as well. This book does contain sexual content, but it is not explicit and is tastefully done. I would not recommend it for those under the age of 17.
One Way or Another seemed to be free of grammatical errors and typos. The characters were well defined, and Williams does a great job at keeping Calder’s sisters involved throughout the entirety of the book without allowing it to overshadow who the main characters are.
Finally, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I am giving this rating because I thoroughly enjoyed reading One Way or Another. It was well written, exciting, funny and had just a bit of mystery that kept me hooked. I highly recommend this book and look forward to following the other Benedict sisters on their journeys.
