Deep Issues by Caroline Peterka centers on Blaise and Alex. When ex-SEAL Blaise Volmer comes home after ten years, he encounters a woman who is beautiful, sweet, and innocent. Suffering from PTSD, he’s shut down emotionally, keeping himself away from his old teammates. Meeting Alex Devoe, he is startled to realize he wants this woman and, despite his torment from guilt of losing his best friend, finds he is drawn to her and is interested to know her on another level. Alex is not like most women he’s met. She calms his mind, and her voice soothes him. Unable to resist Alex’s beauty, warmth, and fierce spirit, Blaise admits he wants her.

Thrilled by Blaise’s proximity and suggestive words, Alex admits she likes him too. Despite the showcase of strength, Alex is dealing with her own issues. Her father died years ago, and she went from having a cushy life to a dysfunctional alcoholic mother, and raising her younger sister, Cam. When the couple embarks on a passionate relationship, they learn to open up to each other, and fall deeply in love.

Just when it seems that their strength together will obscure any obstacle, a secret about her mom’s past and misfortune conspire to threaten her love for Blaise, and life starts to crumble around her.

This sweet romance is a much deeper read than I initially thought it would be. I’m pleased to read this book. It explores a different side of romance and healing. This reminds me that sometimes, the strongest among us are the ones who smile through the silent pain, cry behind closed doors, and fight battles nobody knows about. PTSD is as real as any visible injury. The use of descriptive language creates a realistic reading experience. There is deep, emotional character development. I liked following the advancement of their relationship. There are sexual innuendos, tension and suspense to keep the reader entertained and fixated until the last page. There are a few minor typographical errors, but they did not disrupt the flow of the story.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Readers who enjoy different sides of every story will love this romance novel. I recommend this book to mature audience as this story contains mild violence, explicit language, and sex scenes. Deliciously erotic, entertaining, and deeply moving, Deep Issues is a tale that will consume you, engross you, and stay with you forever.

I agree with your statement "...the strongest among us are the ones who smile through the silent pain, cry behind closed doors, and fight battles nobody knows about." Preach it girl!

This sounds like a deep book in many areas. Romance comes hand in hand with healing. Totally my kind of reading. I can tell that this book will leave me with romantic feeling together with the inspiration of being a strong and an independent woman. Great review, by the way.

Even though I love romantic novels, it gets harder for me to read them when the main characters are having so many issues. It gets too realistic for me and almost heartbreaking because I'm getting attached to the protagonists. Nevertheless thank you very much for this beautiful review.
