Heartache3-Bad Boy Vibes by H. M. Irwing is the story of revenge, romance, sensation, and rape based on two main characters Anna and Rafe who struggle to cope with their troubled past while at the same time they tend to find support in their mutual love and passion.
The story is built on the previous two books and the characters of Anna and Rafe grow in terms of their emotions for each other and plan the revenge on those who ruined their life and made it miserable. While Anna is haunted by the presence of her rapist Matt Preston who lurks around in her neighborhood, she is also unclear about her feelings towards him. She along with Rafe plans vengeance over those who subject both of them to sexual abuse though she is not convinced to consider Rafe as a victim of abuse. Her troubled relationship with her stepbrother is also revealed in the story.
The book is very intense in terms of rape scenes and emotions which are too strong to handle specifically the rape scenes and the emotions of victims towards their plight and suffering. The book is very difficult to understand and it took a few chapters to understand the storyline and characters. The chemistry between Anna and Rafe is very strong and their dialogues keep the reader glued to the book while they draw strength from each other.
The book as mentioned earlier cannot be read in isolation as it becomes difficult to follow the story right from the beginning which may leave the readers in the intertwined storyline. Moreover, the book is based on a very sensitive theme of rape which is a bit intense for romace and fiction readers. The detail in which the rape scenes are written seems to glamorize it rather than highlight it as a menace to society. Presence of Matt Preston who happens to be the brother of Anna's lover intensifies the situation and highlights the trauma which the victims of the rape have to endure generally in the society as well.
The book is very explicit as far as it genre as the romance novel is concerned and is not recommended at all for the young readers and for those who don't like intensity like rape and victimization. The book seems to be very good selection for readers who like intensity, stalking, and porn. The serious fiction readers would not like the book at all.
I would rate the book 2 out of 4 stars as the book was very intense for me as a reader and I was unable to understand the story until I read enough number of chapters. Though the dialogues are well written yet the depiction of rape, the intensity of rape scenes and victimization of main characters at the hands of their rapists was too much to handle as a reader.
