:D I would read a romantic novel if it has more erotica scenes and a little bit of mystery to the characters with a twist of fantasy. Also if the novel has a character that's a little strange at times.

It has to be a believable. If it is over-the-top fictionalized story then I'd never read it. I also, detest the manic-pixie girl character. I love the female characters written by Bronte sisters and Jane Austen.

I wouldn't read a romance movel or discontinue reading it if I can't relate with the main female character. I usually relate with girls who are bookish.

For me a huge turn off is way too many sex scenes or unrealistic plot points!

I enjoy reading books about romance but have comedy in them. I also enjoy a book or two with cheesy romance

If it's too cliche, where the female lead is weak and needs saving by a male. If it has a lot of grammatical errors, it's a turn off to me because instead of reading despite the plot being great, I'll put it down. If the plot is easy to predict, then what's the use for finishing the book.

I have read many romantic books over the years and I tend to get a sour taste if they have the same plot over and over without anything unique that makes the book different; I need a strong first chapter to capture my interest so if it’s bland - no thank you; and I don’t like if the heroine is too weak or submissive (likewise if the hero is incapable of changing or compromising throughout the entire story).

I HATE insta-love! That's a big no-no for me. I prefer it when it's a slow burn but I don't mind if the characters get together after some time, just as long as it's not on the first page/chapter. I also don't really like when the characters are immature and they're unwilling to compromise for each other or in order to make the relationship work. Another thing that I dislike is if there's miscommunication between the main characters and they don't really listen to each other.

Romantic stories all have a common cliche. I fell in love with romance novels after reading Romeo and Juliet. I think authors should work on developing their storyline

I wouldn't read a romance novel if the characters weren't well developed outside of their relationships. It is important to me that both people are already fulfilled and well-rounded separately before they are together.

I wouldn't read a romance novel if the characters weren't well-developed and didn't have enough of a personality to enjoy reading about as a single person. I don't enjoy when the characters are only "full" people when they are in a relationship.
