Review of Between Afternoon and Evening - A Blink in Time
Eddie Louise fell in love with Bill when she was 13. He was older than her, and he used to call her string-bean. She kept pursuing him until they married when she was 23. Ten months later, twin girls were born on Bill’s birthday. Bill was a charmer and could wrap you around his little finger with no effort at all. He was never faithful to Eddie, and he did not know why, as he loved her with all of his heart. Bill guessed that he had strayed because of the hunt. He would see someone attractive, go after them, and always catch them. This stroked his ego.
Then, a 21-year-old named Ebony Jay Taylor caught his eye, and soon they engaged in a months-long affair that ended with Ebony getting pregnant. Eddie soon found out. Bill just couldn’t face Eddie, so he left the house when Eddie wasn’t home, and she felt that she did not get closure.
Charles Amahle Barkaluba is a doctor who worked at the hospital. His wife, Viola, was dying, and because he was a doctor, he blamed himself for not catching her symptoms earlier. Viola had an affair with James Gallet before she got sick. He was a chaplain and social worker who played a mean saxophone. After she got ill, James would come into her room at the hospital and play Jazz for her. Viola loved both men: Charles, her husband, and James, her lover and dear friend. Pick up the book and discover how these five people’s lives eventually intertwine.
What can I say? This was one of the best books that I have ever read. Between Afternoon and Evening. A Blink In Time by A.W. Beauchamp has romance, heartbreak, deceit, suspense, scheming, and more. I sometimes read this book into the night, as I couldn’t put it down. The book follows the lives of two married couples and also the lives of the friends and co-workers who evolved around them. I would get angry at one of the characters and scream into the book, saying, “NO, not him!” The author wrote the book with verbiage that was easy to follow and understand, and the words flowed smoothly throughout the book.
There are some sexual, seductive scenes and some profanity, so I do not recommend this book for young adults. There was, in the beginning, a time when they introduced a lot of characters, which might be confusing at times and challenging to keep track of who was with whom, but after you got into the meat of the story, you followed along effortlessly.
There was nothing that I disliked about the book. The introduction of characters above did not distract me from the book, nor did I dislike it. I, undoubtedly, give this book 5 out of 5 stars. For readers who love romance, this book is the one for you.

Now, about keepin' track of them characters, might be a bit of a challenge at first, but once ya sink into the story, it flows smooth as a gentle stream. Overall, this Missourian believes this book deserves a solid 5 out of 5 stars! So, if you're a fan of romance and a little bit of drama, this book might just be the perfect fit. Y'all should give it a twirl! Atmospheric tension, kept me hooked throughout.
