Review of Broken Boys Beyond Friendships
I recently finished reading Broken Boys: Beyond Friendships by Dak Kopec, and I would rate it 4 out of 5. My experience reading this book was fantastic, but it's worth mentioning that it does touch on sensitive topics such as drug use, sex, and underage drinking. After a slow start, the book quickly gained momentum and held my attention throughout. I didn't come across any spelling or grammar errors in the book, which is always a plus. Overall, I found it to be an easy and enjoyable read, but there were a few things that I didn't like about it. Firstly, the book heavily focuses on social issues, which can feel excessive at times. Secondly, the protagonist's "back-in-my-day" attitude was prevalent throughout the narrative and made it hard for me to connect with the character. Despite this, there are a lot of things to love about the book. For instance, Max Vandermark's relationship with his children and Blake is heartwarming to read about, and the friendship between Blake and Ivy is sweet. I would consider his relationship with Logan to be a highlight in the book. The evolution of their relationship, from becoming friends to the breakdown of their relationship and eventual reunion, was sweet, cute, and romantic, which was my favorite part of the book. I find Blake to be a good character who had a rough patch in the book. However, I believe that he grew and matured into a well-rounded character who is sweet, kind, loyal, and hardworking. That being said, Blake's age makes it difficult for me to connect with his character or relate to him on a personal level. It broke my heart to think about the pain that Blake and Eden had. must have gone through. Among Dorian Diebold, Theo, and Blake's father, I cannot decide whom I dislike the most. All of them are terrible characters. On the other hand, I love Jillian, Logan, and Ivy for their unwavering love and support towards Blake. Overall, this book was amazing. The small surprise at the end has made the book even more enjoyable. There's so much more I could write but overall It elicited a range of emotions such as laughter, tears, sadness, and happiness. I highly recommend it.
