“Broken Boys Beyond Friendships” by Dak Kopec describes the life events of its characters, with particular emphasis on Blake Roberts. Blake, who is in his fifties, appears on Big Bear Lake in Southern California, and that’s how you start reading the book. There he comes across Ivy Vandermark, who is one of those he used to know in the past, and that starts him on a journey of remembering, feelings, and relationships.

I think that the characters created by the author are very realistic. In particular, Blake is clearly defined. His feelings, his past, and the changes in him are what we see with our own eyes. He describes perfectly his dealings with other characters, such as Logan and Ivy. This makes them feel as though two people are talking and doing normal things, and that is why they relate to most stories.

By describing the setting of the book—Big Bear Lake and some areas—you feel like you're there. The author employs extensive use of imagery to build a solid picture of the setting. Thus, one can better visualize the story and get more enjoyment from it.

The writing is simple but engaging as well. He uses a rich vocabulary that portrays the situations and emotions of the characters. In most cases, the dialogs presented within conversations are authentic; however, some dialogs just seem artificial.

The editing is one of the greatest achievements in the book. The book is very professional; it is a rare occurrence and definitely makes the reading experience more interesting.

It is a very interesting book full of emotions, but there are flaws in it. This is because the speed at which the story unfolds may not always remain the same. Sometimes it seems that the conversation between the characters can be more natural and unforced.

To sum up, I rate “Broken Boys Beyond Friendships” 4 out of 5 stars. It is a very touching and intelligent novel. This about how the past affects us; our past experiences shape who we are and how we develop. There are some minor issues with pacing and dialogue. The story has twists and turns, showing that there are highs and lows in life and that the human spirit can overcome trials and difficulties like these.
